Director Loh Hai Yew
Drawn to how cityscapes can evolve and be stretched by building on existing architecture, Mr Loh Hai Yew is driven to complete projects in a holistic manner in partnership with consultants, clients and contractors. Having spent more than twenty years in the industry, Hai Yew takes a keen interest in a building’s history and context. He incorporates them as the foundation and inspiration of the project design, reinterpreting the past into the present context while preserving their unique character. He has been involved in the master-planning of numerous historic districts and shopping districts such as Chinatown in Singapore together with the Singapore Tourism Board.
In addition, Hai Yew has a love for art and sees architecture as the closest to creating art. He combines this passion with his eye for detail, allowing him to have an intuitive understanding of design detailing, a necessary skill in architecture.
Today, his extensive portfolio includes both local and overseas projects, which cover a spectrum of typologies ranging from institutional to retail and mixed-use. Examples of his work are Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Raffles Girls’ School and Mall of Dilmunia. The director currently focuses on institutional projects, aiming to build places of learning for future generations.
