Designing the obvious is lazy, designing it differently is stylish, and designing with purpose is architecture.

Intrigued by how spaces are assembled into ‘giant machines’ and how people inhabit these ‘machines’, Mr Ng San Son’s designs are guided by the desire to emotionally and functionally connect people with a space. To fulfil this aim, he encourages open interpretation of the design and innovative adaptation of the space by the users through exploration and interaction.

With more than ten years of experience, San Son’s portfolio ranges in a diversity of typologies from retail to religious buildings. From the River Safari’s immersive design which includes a riverboat ride to the St Andrew’s Cathedral’s extension of a subterranean worship hall that connects the visitors to the monument, he explores and enhances how people interact with architecture.

Due to his creative work, San Son was recently named as one of the twenty promising Singaporean architects under the age of 45 by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). Two of his projects, myVillage at Serangoon Garden and Orchard Central, were displayed at URA’s Third Edition of “20 under 45”.

Currently, San Son is also a part-time lecturer at the National University of Singapore, Department of Architecture where he engages and imparts his architectural knowledge with young aspiring architects.
