Gieto Sugianto

Director

Every designer has the responsibility to create design in a sustainable manner so as to address the depletion of global natural resources.

Mr Gieto Sugianto’s design outlook and aesthetic sensibilities are influenced by the sum of his experiences from his architectural education and early training under a distinguished master of architecture in Germany to a greater awareness and adoption of sustainable design that can help curb the impending environmental crisis. Out of these, Gieto has derived a holistic design process through which he creates ‘oneness’ and deeply delightful places that evoke emotional responses from its occupants; architecture that integrates well-proportioned spaces and artful play of light and shadow while standing in a carefully curated and intimate dialogue with its natural landscape, community and cultural nuances.

Design, for Gieto, is a collaborative art. It depends on not only an eclectic mix of talents and skillsets across the different stages of a progject from design, design development and detailing to design delivery, but also the melding and management of the team’s chemistry. Understanding this, Gieto effectively combines his deep expertise and people-centred approach with a simple but powerful five-step process – dream, define, design, develop and deliver, carefully guiding his team and successfully engaging with his clients from concept to completion. Across a varied portfolio of project types and scale, Gieto and his team have won numerous design competitions in both the private and public sectors, and deliver notthing short of design excellence. Testament to this are notable projects such as the Esplande Waterfront Theatre (2020 S.ARCH Design Award 2 – Honourable Mention), NUS E7 (2018 S.ARCH Award – Best Conceptualised Design Award; 2022 SIA Architectural Design Award 2 – Honourable Mention), the NUH Oral Health Building in collaboration with B+H Architects (2-18 European Healthcare Design Award, Future Healthcare Design category – Highly Commended), the Marina One Development in collaboration with Ingenhoven Architects (2019 SIA Architectural Design Award – Honourable Mention), the Gateway Canopy (2019 Singapore Design Awards, Placemaking – Gold), Little India MRT Station (2010 World Architecture Festival Award – Finalist; 2017 Singapore Design Award – Platinum; 2016 LTA Excellence Award) and the luxury condominium Ardmore 3 (2015 SIA Architectural Design Award – Honourable Mention).

Deeply passionate about design and committed to excellence, Gieto is currently working with the firm’s Design Core Department to further refine its design processes.
