Heartware Network Office
Empowering the next generation through design
Heartware Network’s new 350sqm office, located in Singapore, is a space engineered to provide opportunities for youths to gather, interact and participate. This is achieved through the introduction of a distinctive modular grid furniture system, which iterates with various plug-in elements that suit the purpose of each space.
A key strategy behind the modular grid system is creating a flexible canvas that would allow and nurture a sense of ownership, participation and spontaneity. This customisation of space was realised via tiered bleachers on wheels, loose seating and individual pedestals which can pack back into the cabinetry. Simultaneously, ideation panels and spots, freely available throughout the office, encourage the youths to shape the space; giving them room to create and develop their own identity. Heartware Network’s new office premises aim to give the youth who volunteer with the organisation a voice, hence creating a space reflecting the energy of the youth.
Inspired by the leaders of the future, our design approach prioritises foresight. This is reflected in the green and smart elements incorporated within the space through design. It also cultivates awareness of the global eco-conscious movement among the youths. A feature green wall not only greets visitors who enter the space, it also harvests condensate from air-conditioning (a commonly unknown wasted by-product of air-conditioning). Sensors allow for smart control to switch lighting off when not in use, and electrical components are wired to allow users to have satellite control of them through apps while monitoring their day-to-day energy footprint. The youth are encouraged to take ownership of the space and have greater understanding of their surroundings.
