SBF Center

A vertical urban park

SBF Center is a 31-storey commercial development located in the heart of the Central Business District along Robinson Road. Inspired by the small, urban park that once sat on the site, it sought to bring back this enclave of green urban reprieve by creating pockets of verdant spaces interspersed throughout the building. The resulting architecture is a porous, open massing that integrates the contemporary urban city lifestyle with the nurturing qualities of nature.

Massings are lifted, slid and shaped to allow opportunities of open spaces. Corners are rounded to mimic the organic environment. Lines of nature are mapped onto these surfaces of various thickness and density. This undulating expression is carried up to the roof forming a unique roofscape which, when integrated with night lighting, creates a distinctive architectural outline.

As one walks along the bustling street of Robinson Road, with its imposing build-up of street arcades, the relief of urban built-up by greenery is a pleasant and welcoming reprieve.
The public plaza at street level
A series of gardens were designed to develop a new vertical urban park and achieve 100% green replacement.
The architecture is a porous, open massing that integrates the contemporary urban city lifestyle with the nurturing qualities of nature.

Straddling between the podium block and office tower is a voluminous sky park, designed with pool facilities, to promote a wellness abyss for its occupants. A portion of this roofscape forms a ‘fifth façade’ and is complemented by a richly variegated pattern in the landscape design of this lush sky terrace. These cascading gardens can be appreciated from within the building podium, which is shaped such that every medical suite is externally facing natural daylighting.

Equally important to note, is a 10m-high voluminous ground public space that is created to deliver an experiential journey definitive of the building. An 11m-wide through-to-sky atrium space is also introduced to bring in the relaxing quality of the natural sunlight.

Inspired by the memories of the existing park, the development preserves its sense of place in the architecture. Visitors are greeted by feature walls, ceiling and floor tiling pattern taking the theme of the park. Recognizing the efforts to build a sustainable building, the development has been conferred with a BCA Green Mark Platinum.
