Perspective Features James Cook and Marco Polo Buildings in London

ALL NEWS

Perspective Global, Perspective Magazine’s digital platform, recently released an article on The Mariner’s Quarter’s James Cook and Marco Polo Buildings in London, designed by DP Architects.
DP Architects’ design approach is heavily driven by the building’s surroundings and seeks to create a harmonious, contextual relationship with the rest of the master plan while still making a statement.
The contiguous apartment block is visually divided into three separate layers – each layer corresponds to the three categories of building heights as viewed from the Thames. The lowest tier draws an invisible line that aligns with the lowest blocks, the middle tier relates to the rest of the buildings, and the uppermost tier floats above all other blocks in the master plan.

The top and lowest blocks are rotated on a central axis, creating more river views for the east-facing units further behind and away from the water’s edge. The middle tier is then rotated in the opposite direction to engage the new pier as it leans towards the green commons and overlooks the Thames barrier and Thames Barrier Park.
