The International Built Environment Week (IBEW) 2026, held from 2nd to 4th September at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, brought together built environment leaders, practitioners and policymakers under the theme ‘Empowering People, Accelerating Intelligence’. Co-organised by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and RX Singapore under the BuildSG initiative, IBEW remains one of the most significant platforms for industry dialogue in the region. Across three days, representatives from DP Architects (DPA), DP Engineers and DP Sustainable Design (DPSD) contributed perspectives on leadership succession, digital transformation, building safety and decarbonisation.
On Securing the Future of Built Environment Firms
At ‘Securing the Future of Singapore’s BE Firms’ , DPA CEO Ar. Seah Chee Huang took to the stage to share how one of Singapore’s longest-standing architecture practices has navigated nearly six decades of leadership transitions.
Since its founding in 1967, DP Architects has evolved alongside Singapore, playing an instrumental role in shaping the nation’s built environment. Now a leading multidisciplinary design practice with over 1,000 staff across 17 global offices and eight architecture-related specialist companies, DPA’s succession is built on principles of renewal, creating deliberate space for new perspectives at every stage of the firm’s evolution. DPA works to develop its people across the full arc of their careers, as a wide and deep talent pool allows the firm to elevate staff progressively, identifying leaders for each succeeding generation.
The key to securing the future of a built environment firm lies in investing in the people who will carry the practice forward, equipping each new generation to face not age-old as well as fresh challenges.
On Leading the CORENET X Transformation
DPA director Ar. Chua Zi Jun delivered a talk titled ‘Leading the CORENET X Transformation: A Leadership Perspective’ at the CDL Theatre, where he shared the firm’s experience as one of the early adopters of CORENET X. His presentation covered DPA’s vision and roadmap for the transition in addition to how it built organisational competency and equipped its teams to embrace new ways of working. He also joined a panel discussion alongside representatives from ADDP Architects, Woh Hup, CIAP Architects, BCA and the Urban Redevelopment Authority, exchanging perspectives on navigating the industry’s continued transformation under CORENET X.
On Building Safety and the Accredited Checker Role
At the BE Seminar 2026, DPE director Er. Tan Chin Hock, was featured in the ‘AC Showcase & Certificate Presentation for New Accredited Checkers’ segment at the Cassia Ballroom. As part of a programme celebrating newly qualified Accredited Checkers and underscoring their vital role in upholding building safety and compliance, Chin Hock appeared in a video feature encouraging more Professional Engineers to take on the AC role and contribute meaningfully to Singapore’s built environment.
On Decarbonisation and the Future of Sustainable Buildings
On 4th September, DPSD director Er. Yong Siew Onn participated in ‘Breakout Session 3.3: Pushing the Boundaries of Decarbonisation – The Future of Sustainable Buildings’ at the Plenary Theatre. Alongside representatives from ebm-papst SEA, Lendlease, the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and BCA, the panel explored how Green Mark Version 7 can accelerate industry-wide decarbonisation and support Singapore’s transition towards net zero.
IBEW 2026 was a reminder that leadership in the built environment is built through synergy – where design, values and culture come together. DP Architects and its group of companies continue to contribute to the profession not only through its projects deliver, but the knowledge, advocacy and collaboration shared with the wider industry.
