DP Architects (DPA) has successfully obtained the ISO 19650 compliance, becoming one of only five firms in Singapore to be ISO 19650 certified. Along with this, DPA has also received special recognition for adept implementation of the Common Data Environment (CDE) using Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) which surpasses local industry knowledge.
Ar. Seah Chee Huang, CEO of DP Architects, received the award from Senior Vice President, Business Assurance, Mr. Fong Soo Guan, of the certification body TÜV SÜD ASEAN, in a short award ceremony, held at the practice’s headquarters in Singapore on 31st March 2023. Ar. Seah also shared how DPA’s BIM journey began with Singapore Sports Hub, noting that while it had been unconventional and challenging to begin BIM adoption through such a large complex project, it was a worthwhile with an immensely rewarding outcome.
Since then, DPA has been steadily integrating BIM into its design and delivery process, successfully capitalising on the benefits of the platform in its projects which range across a variety of type and scale. Among them are Sengkang Hospitals, the recently completed integrated community hub, One Punggol, the mixed-use development Paya Lebar Quarter, and Ang Mo Kio 23 Nursing Home. The latter two projects were recognised at the inaugural Integrated Design Delivery Awards by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore for demonstrating excellence in its adoption of IDD and digital technologies to aid in processes such as design, fabrication and assembly on-site as well as the operations and maintenance of buildings.
“ISO 19650 provides a framework for the Built Environment industry to communicate in the same language, mitigate potential conflicts as well as improve efficiency and, importantly, collaboration which is key to real transformation in our sector,” said Ar. Seah on what the certification means for the design practice and the value proposition it brings to the table.
“As one of the largest architecture practices in Singapore, we hope our attainment of this certification will not only increase DP’s competitiveness in IDD but also help to encourage wider adoption of the same standards in our industry, further deepening capabilities and partnerships.”
The accreditation, following months of rigorous audit by TUV SUD, not only attests to the firm’s capabilities to execute the demands of ISO 19650 under complex practice conditions and to ensure compliance with ISO requirements when specified by clients, it is also demonstrative of DPA’s commitment to best practices in BIM. The design practice will be standardising the use of BIM across its global offices and implementing ISO 19650 in its new BIM projects around the world.
