Invited to speak at the Vogue Living Conversations panel session on 16th October, CEO Ar. Seah Chee Huang shared insights into the potential of architecture and design in shaping a connected, living urban environment that fosters social, ecological and emotional meaning. The session, titled ‘The Future City: Designing for Density, Nature and Belonging in Singapore’, was joined by moderator Elaine Tan (Director of Research at the Centre for Liveable Cities) as well as Yong Min Ho (Heritage Educator & Founder of The Urbanist) and Lynn Khoo (Deputy Executive Director of DesignSingapore Council).
Reframed as an opportunity to redefine progress, urban density offers a new perspective on the creation of possibilities for connection. Density, in Singapore’s context, brings people closer to each other, and simultaneously highlights the importance of shared spaces and rituals to build a sense of belonging. In remaining productive, efficient, smart and resilient, the city amplifies the value of nature and community through regenerative design. This shift towards a biophilic and better-than-sustainable approach to urban development is an aspiration for a cohesive and harmonious environment, where nature and the built landscape are reimagined as one living system.
Marking the launch of Vogue Living Singapore, a new design and lifestyle vertical housed within Vogue Singapore’s print edition, this inaugural edition of Vogue Living Conversations gathered leading voices in sectors including architecture, interiors, fashion and lifestyle, to explore the power of design in wider contexts.
