DP Design director Mike Lim was the most significant winner of the awards night, recognised with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Awards Committee for his long-standing passion, contributions and commitment to Singapore’s Interior Design community. His approach to interior design involves creating transformative, user-sensitive experiences that speak to encouraging improvements in our urban condition through its empathetic, people-centric approach. Treating interiors not as isolated design projects, but as synergistic expressions of a building’s exterior architecture, Mike diligently crafts his projects with this dynamic as a foundational piece of the design process. Helming major projects of diverse typologies, spanning an over 30-year long career, Mike has developed a matured and considered understanding of Interior Design. His signature design intuition is tied to crafting artful significance and understated elegance, intent on creating an ambience befitting site context, generating memorable experiential programmes that delight the senses and captivate users.

To me design has a higher purpose, a purpose to service humanity, it embodies empathy, inclusiveness and accessibility and not servicing one-self for the style and signature.
– Mike Lim, DP Design director

Mike’s portfolio is both extensive and diverse, testament to the depth and breadth of his design expertise. Being the Design Principal for DP Design, he has led the interior designs for both the Dubai Mall and Resorts World Sentosa, and is currently leading the retail and F&B planning for Changi Airport T5. His instinctive, people-centric approach have impacted the overall design mentality of the rest of his team as well. Attesting to the malleability of his creative expression, Mike has also led design for projects of smaller scale but of similar significance, such as Sengkang General Hospital, Dover Park Hospice, Our Tampines Hub, Cinemaxx Junior in Indonesia, Emaar Square Mall in Turkey, Project Keiko in Japan and the Assima Mall in Kuwait. The multifarious nature of his many projects showcases his ability to handle spatial design at any scale, and his many contributions to the exportation of the Singapore design brand abroad.

Mike’s win at SIDA 2022 is both significant and well-merited, marking a prodigious career that will carry on into the future.
