The design of the proposed co-located Elective Care Centre and National Dental Centre Singapore, strategically lays the foundation for future expansion of the new Singapore General Hospital. The design considers the vision encapsulated in the Outram Medical Campus Master Plan (OMC MP) to ensure the immediate, medium and long-term objectives of the project will be met with respect to operability, scalability, adaptability, flexibility, and connectivity. These are key principles adopted in the design that are further guided by the established OMC MP’s 3 urban planning axes and functional stacking datums of the envisioned integrated campus.
In this respect the medical components of this facility, in particular, the operating theatres and endoscopy suites, specialist outpatient clinics, sterile supply department and wards have been planned in an integrated manner with functional considerations, including infection control, and operational connectivity as priorities. Functionally, the basement, as part of a larger network of shared logistic, services and vehicular movement, connects the entire campus development via tunnel links at designated levels to adjoining clinical and specialty developments. Additionally, support spaces, such as laboratories, diagnostic and imaging centres, are similarly located to provide effective operational efficiencies and conducive patient /user experience.
