Tranquility within a Landscaped Courtyard
myVillage @ Serangoon Garden
1 Maju Ave, Singapore 556679

myVillage, a two-storey, two-basement mall nestled in the low-rise private residential estate of Serangoon Garden, was conceptualised as a welcoming garden courtyard that the neighbouring residents could ‘come home’ to. The main architectural strategy was to include natural elements to evoke a feeling of warmth – synonymous to one being totally comfortable at home.

Outfitted with a modern glass exterior, water cascade, landscaped roof terrace and a sunken garden, it allows the mall to integrate harmoniously with Serangoon Garden’s laid-back surroundings. Fusing architecture, landscape and the living environment into harmonious blend, it creates a distinctive architectural impression that is both timeless and elegant.

The development is perceived as one’s home where one first enters his ‘living room’ veranda on the ground floor. The intentional choice of having the same floor patterns on the outdoor pathways and interior walkways serves to diffuse the exterior into the interior — an architectural gesture of commonality in myVillage.

As myVillage is a two-storey development with a roof garden, natural light permeates the building through skylight. As an outreach gesture extended by this village, an open sky terrace fronts over half the mall’s perimeter on the second storey. Here, shoppers can spend time relaxing at the terrace with friends and family, and finally take in the sights on the third storey roof garden.
