Conceived in Hollywood in the late 90s, The Standard is synonymous with their patronage towards alternative pop culture; cultivating an unorthodox brand characterized by a casual, celebrity-studded ambience. By celebrating its ethos, our architectural scheme abstracts from its heritage and genius loci to deliver a hospitality development and experience that is anything but standard.

Its distinctive lenticular façade is an ode to its origins. Static yet expressive, it drew inspiration from the American billboard while capturing the unconventional and quirky nature of The Standard brand. This treatment is present not only on the hotel tower but also at the podium, creating a cohesive visual language.

The design scheme also creatively bridges the dichotomy of its location between the buzz of Orchard Road and the serenity of Nassim and the Botanic Gardens; seamlessly weaving Nature and Urban together to create a hidden oasis of sensory pleasures. This is achieved through an irresistible poolside scene and a sunken courtyard with lushly landscaped stepped terraces within the podium offering sanctuary for those seeking quiet respite and a delightful spot for those seeking a bit of socializing and merrymaking.

Structurally, the design is unique due to the massive cantilevers and transfers required, posing a significant challenge to consultants and contractors in the face of stringent building requirements. The project team had to find ingenious ways to maximise floor area for commercial viability while adhering to the design intent.
